Town Council Meeting Minutes
Woodsboro, Maryland
March 24, 2014
The regular scheduled Workshop Meeting of the Woodsboro Town Council was held today at the Town Hall with the following members present:
Burgess Smith, Commissioners Kellar and Rittelmeyer. Arriving late was Commissioner Spruill. Absent from the meeting was Commissioner Trimmer.
Burgess Smith called the meeting to order and led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
There were two residents and no guest in attendance.
Commissioner Rittelmeyer reported that April 12th is the date for new trees to be planted in the park. He spoke briefly on the type of tree that will be planted. He also mentioned the huge mess left behind from the ice storm in February.
Commissioner Rittelmeyer reported he has not had time to work on any POS paperwork. He mentioned a grant that is obtainable through MML for the convention in June. The town is eligible for two grants and he forwarded the information to Commissioner Trimmer and mentioned it to Commissioner Kellar.
Commissioner Kellar questioned the zoning for a property in town that a contractor called him about. The contractor was informed there was no side setback on the property and he is being hired to construct an addition. Commissioner Kellar was informed there are setbacks and he will get back in touch with this contractor to inform him.
Burgess Smith presented an ad for a new maintenance employee that can be used for the paper. After some fine tweaking on the ad it was decided to run it in the local paper for three days over the weekend.
Burgess Smith informed the Council of some curb damage on Adams Street and he will get someone to repair it. Commissioner Kellar suggested the town purchase markers to put along certain areas while plowing streets. Burgess Smith thought we should wait and address it at a later date if they are needed.
Burgess Smith opened discussion on the Re-enactment. He informed everyone that it will take place the last weekend in June. He attended a recent meeting with the coordinator of the event and the Frederick County Sheriff who will be conducting traffic control in the town.
Mr. Jay Wolfe was in attendance to discuss having Woodsboro Days again in October 2014. The date will be October 18, 2014, the weekend after the Thurmont Colorfest. He asked the Council to begin thinking about their help in promoting this event. He was asked about the 5K run being held again and he indicated it will be.
Ms. Susan Britton was in attendance to show her support for the Re-enactment and is glad to see it is moving forward.
Commissioner Rittelmeyer questioned the concessions in the park during the re-enactment and asked if the Rec Council could open their stand. Burgess Smith suggested they contact the Fire Department to inquire since they will be handling concessions. Burgess Smith also announced that the bathrooms will be locked during this event and the Event Coordinator will have porta pots placed in the park.
Upon the arrival of Commissioner Spruill the February minutes were reviewed and a motion to accept them as presented passed 3 – 0.
Burgess Smith then informed Commissioner Spruill of recent discussion in the earlier part of the meeting.
Commissioner Spruill inquired on letters that were to go out to residents and asked if one could be sent to the property owner of 2 N. Main Street in reference to her bush that blocks the sidewalk. Burgess Smith will process a letter asking her to trim the bush at the sidewalk and inform her that trees need to be trimmed up nine feet over the sidewalk.
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn passed 3 – 0.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary E. Rice
