Town Workshop
Meeting Minutes
4/26/2010
Woodsboro,
Maryland
April 26, 2010
The regular scheduled Workshop Meeting of the
Woodsboro Town Council was held on Monday,
April 26, 2010 at the Town Hall with the
following members present:
Burgess Smith, Commissioners Brakebill,
Rensberger, Eaves and Rittelmeyer.
There were two guests in attendance.
Burgess Smith called the meeting to order.
The March minutes were reviewed and
Commissioner Brakebill made one correction on
page 2, paragraph 6, for a misspelled word. A
motion to accept the minutes with one
correction passed 4 – 0.
The first line of business was with Ms.
Melissa Main and Ms. Mary Fitzgerald
representatives of Walkersville class of ’78.
The ladies were in attendance to be granted
permission to plant a dogwood tree in memory
of a fellow classmate, Ms. Margaret
Broadwater. It was decided that Commissioner
Rensberger would meet them at the park to
determine a location. They would also like to
have a plaque with the tree. A motion to allow
the planting of a memorial dogwood tree with a
plaque and the location to be determined,
passed 4 – 0.
The next line of business was discussion of
the FY 11 proposed budget. Burgess Smith
presented the Council with a proposed budget
and a discussion was held and figures for each
line item established.
Commissioner Brakebill reported on an email he
received from Mr. Ryan Trout who would like to
use the building at 107 N. Second St. as a
campaign office. It was decided not to replace
the old water meter due to the short term use
of the building. All Council members agreed to
allow Mr. Trout to use the building.
Commissioner Brakebill also reported on the
Public Hearing being held during our regular
monthly meeting on May 11th for text
amendments to the sign ordinance. Burgess
Smith was concerned with the impact it would
have on existing signs and Commissioner
Brakebill informed him it would not make
things any worse.
Commissioner Rensberger opened discussion on
the Civil War signs and asked Burgess Smith if
he had spoken to Mike Strausbough, member of
the American Legion. Burgess Smith had not and
Commissioner Rensberger was going to touch
base with Mr. Strausbough again.
Commissioner Rensberger handed out a packet on
the Civil War markers and explained where they
were going to be located at Trout’s Market and
at the Park. All Council members agreed with
the locations shown. Commissioner Rensberger
reported the brackets for the signs would be
installed on May 15th and he has a contractor
to do this work.
At this time Burgess Smith closed the regular
meeting and went into closed session for
further discussion on the FY 11 proposed
budget. Motion to do so passed 4 – 0.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary E. Rice
